Embracing my emotions over the weekend

Reconnecting with Myself

Over the Weekend In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we often forget to pause and check in with the one constant companion we always have: ourselves. Weekends can be a perfect time to reset, step away from the demands of the week, and reconnect with our bodies and emotions. Taking this time for self-awareness isn’t just about relaxing it’s about building a deeper understanding of how we feel and why. It’s about creating a safe space to welcome every emotion, whether it’s joy, sadness, frustration, or even uncertainty. Here’s how I dedicate time over the weekend to tap into my body, honor my emotions, and feel truly present.

1. The first step is slowing down. I create a quiet moment whether it’s during a morning cup of tea, a nature walk, or simply sitting in stillness. I close my eyes, take a deep breath, and allow myself to notice what’s happening in my body. Am I holding tension in my shoulders? Is there a tightness in my chest? Do I feel lightness or heaviness in any particular area? These physical sensations often carry messages about how I’m feeling emotionally, even if I haven’t consciously acknowledged them yet.

2. Welcoming All Emotions It’s easy to embrace positive feelings like happiness or excitement, but what about discomfort or sadness? This weekend ritual is about welcoming everything. No emotion is “bad” or “wrong.” Each feeling has a purpose and a lesson, even if it’s simply asking for attention. When I feel something challenging, I try to name it: “Ah, this is frustration,” or “Here’s some anxiety.” Naming the emotion helps me see it as a visitor rather than a permanent state. It’s a reminder that feelings are temporary and deserve acknowledgment, not suppression.

3.Sometimes sitting with emotions is enough, but other times, my body craves movement to help process them. Gentle yoga, stretching, or even a simple walk can work wonders. Moving my body with intention feels like a dialogue it helps emotions flow instead of getting stuck. During these movements, I focus on connecting breath to body, allowing the rhythm to guide me through any lingering tension or unspoken feelings.

4. Journaling My Inner Landscape After spending time with my body and emotions, I often journal to capture what I’ve experienced. Writing it down helps me make sense of the emotions that surfaced and provides clarity on what I might need whether it’s more rest, connection with a loved one, or just a little extra kindness toward myself.

5. The Power of Acceptance By the end of the weekend, I often feel lighter, more grounded, and more in tune with myself. This practice isn’t about fixing or changing anything; it’s about acceptance. It’s about giving myself permission to feel, to be human, and to honor whatever comes up.

Taking time to tap into your body and welcome your emotions is a powerful act of self-care. It reminds us that we are not just our thoughts or achievements we are feeling, breathing beings with an inner world that deserves care and compassion. So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed or disconnected, consider setting aside some time this weekend to simply be with yourself. Tune into your body, honor your emotions, and trust that each one has a purpose. In this gentle practice, you might just find a renewed sense of peace and connection. What will you welcome this weekend?

What will you welcome this weekend, and how will you honor yourself in the process?
